"In December, though the Foundation's endowment suffered considerable losses, the trustees approved a budget that protects the New York Foundation's core work, keeps our commitment to those organizations expecting renewal grants in 2009 and maintains grants at their current levels. As a result, we are going to be able to make fewer new grants this year. Our mission will remain the same and our endowment, though modest, will continue to be used in support of efforts to provide communities powerful and meaningful ways to become active in responding to these difficult times."
