The Connecticut Health Foundation has supported Online Journalism, an initiative of New Haven Independent in a contractual agreement to report health news. They have been awarded two contacts totaling $22,000. The first contract is for the time period Jan. 2008 through Dec. 2008 totaling $12,000 and the second, is a two-year contract between Jan. 2009 and Dec. 2009 totaling $10,000. CT Health decided to support Independent for two main reasons. First, the recent cuts in health reporters and high turnover at local newspapers. Second, Online Journalism serves as a good online resource for health news in the Greater New Haven area and beyond –covering great local stories that have resulted in other collaborative efforts and advocacy.
