Upload Your Videos

Fewer Steps: Paid Web Hosting

Internet Archive makes you jump through quite a few hoops. One alternative is using a commercial web host. We recommend a bulk-hosting service, in order to avoid overage charges.

For more information, see Web Hosting Services

3 Upload via FTP

Server Address

Open your FTP Client application. Copy and paste the server name (in red) into your FTP client. Do not close the web page.

FTP Login

Your FTP interface might not look the same, but they all have space for a server address, an username and a password. Use your e-mail address and password (from step 1) and click connect.

FTP Folder

You should see the folder/identifier (from step 2). Enter the folder (double click) and then upload your video. FTP clients vary, but most allow a simple drag and drop operation. Otherwise, you might need to browse your hard drive for your video file.

FTP Progress

Wait for your video to upload.

4 Finalize Upload

Finally, revisit the Internet Archive page you left open and click the link at the bottom of the Using an FTP Client section.

Media Link

You will be redirected to a page with a link, click it.

Submit Movie

Select Open Source Movies and click the Submit Movie button.

5 Get Your Video URL

Media Link

You will be redirected to a page with a link, click it.

Submit Movie

If you see the same page (from step 4), wait five to ten minutes and reload.

Media!

Once the video has processed, a new page will load, revealing your media.

Media Link

Now right click (on mac, ctrl + click) the filetype, in the left side-bar, and select Copy Link Location (Copy Shortcut for Internet Explorer). This copies the video URL.

Now that you have your video URL, you're ready to make a blog post.

How do I Return to the Uploaded Video?

If you need to return to a video you've uploaded to Internet Archive, click the Contributions link (you must be signed in). Find the link that says tasks that are done, click it and then click on the title of the video you want to see.
