Where to Begin?

Kino + Ubuntu

This seems like a very promising solution for GNU/Linux video editing. Ubuntu is an easy-to-use GNU/Linux distribution. Kino is the GNU/Linux equivalent to iMovie and Windows Movie Maker.

Check out the Installing Kino on Ubuntu — if you would like to add your experiences/advice, we'd be delighted (we will eventually move that information from the wiki to here).

LiVES + Ubuntu

There are also reports that LiVES is a good solution when you're using footage shot on a digital camera. If you have experience, please document it at Installing LiVES on Ubuntu

Advanced Options

Alternative Distros

Ubuntu happens to be an easy to use distribution, but it is by no means the only option. If you have any experience editing video on an alternative distro, please document your experience at Edit on Linux

Alternative Editing Programs

Cinelerra is a more advanced free and open source editing suite. PiTivi is another open source editing suites for GNU/Linux. Kdenlive is an multi-track editing suite built for the KDE environment on GNU/Linux. Feel free to list other editing solutions at Edit on Linux

Building a GNU/Linux Video Editing Resource

Please share resources, walkthroughs, links and other information in the Linux Video Editing

Once we have a reliable, simple, and comprehensive guide for editing video on GNU/Linux, we'll spiff it up and put it here.

We're always looking to improve these guides.
